John Schmidt, known in community coverage as boy john, held the Mr. Great Lakes Olympus Leather 2009 title and continued contributing to the organization as a competitor, producer, and chronicler of regional events.

Representing Indianapolis, John placed runner-up at International Mr. Olympus Leather on August 14, 2010, at the Hilton LAX in Los Angeles, where Utah Rox won the international title.

His involvement extended well beyond the competition stage. In November 2013, he coproduced the Great Lakes Olympus Leather and Power Exchange contests with Ms Kendra at Indianapolis’s 501 Eagle. That weekend saw Bear Abbott earn the Mr. Great Lakes Olympus Leather 2014 title, with auction baskets supporting the winners’ travel funds.

Published coverage identified John as the Great Lakes Olympus Leather regional producer in 2014, and he continued producing the contest awarding the 2016 titles. His reports also helped preserve the names, experiences, and accomplishments of subsequent titleholders, making him part of both the region’s history and the work of keeping that history accessible.
